Shopify Theme Partnership FAQs

This is a collaborative partnership between a Shopify developer/publisher and a UI theme designer to create and sell premium Shopify themes. The developer handles the technical implementation and marketplace publishing, while the designer creates the visual design and user experience.

The revenue is distributed as follows:

• 10% to Shopify (platform fees)
• 55% to the developer (technical implementation, publishing, and ongoing support)
• 35% to the UI designer (design creation and visual assets)

The partnership agreement is for 1 year from the date of the first theme submission.

At the end of the 1-year term, the theme ownership and marketplace account will be transferred to you. You can continue selling the theme under your own account, and the developer will maintain support for existing customers who purchased during the partnership period.

You must submit:

• Complete UI design mockups for all theme pages
• Comprehensive design system documentation
• Detailed descriptions for every UI component
• Style guides and brand guidelines

The developer will guide you to ensure the design meets Shopify's technical requirements and marketplace standards.

Both partners share code ownership and access during the partnership. This includes:

• Shopify theme code (Liquid templates, CSS, JavaScript)
• HTML structure and components
• Design assets and documentation

At the end of the partnership term, the code will be transferred to a separate account under your ownership.

The developer manages all technical support and maintenance during the partnership. After the partnership ends, the developer continues supporting customers who purchased during the partnership period, while you handle support for new customers under your account.
